I wipe the tumbler out with a paper towel & put the shot back in & put the lid on it.I let the tumbler in that condition until I need to use it again. When it's time to use it, I add about 2 oz of real ammonia from the hardware store, not the soapy junk from the grocery store.

Do not buy this rock tumbler!! It worked great for 3 weeks and then the rocks thinned the plastic. I came out to a mess where the sludge leaked out and into the machine. This is also a very loud machine, I bought a new tumbler that's rubber and it's a lot quieter.

Heat-wise: the tumbler didn't get hot (not sure if they can). Sound-wise: I would say this rock tumbler is fairly quiet, though not silent. If you like the ambient noise produced by a sound machine then you may really like the sound. My husband, who cannot live without ambient noise, loved the sound produced by this rock tumbler. Apr 16, 2015 · I dunno about the "reported" belt problems are with the HF tumblers. I got my first one in '86 and it worked quite well until I "improved" it in 2009. I got a dual drum tumbler in 2009 and it is still working great. Never had to replace a belt on either unit. I made a larger drum out of 4" PVC and one out of a nut jug (32 oz.).
